We heard from renowned thought leaders Dr. Thomas Insel, Dr. Sam Nordberg, and Georgia Hoyler on their diving into strategies for creating and maintaining innovative partnerships between care providers and payors. They highlighted Precision Behavioral Health, a groundbreaking digital-first model that pairs patients with evidence-based mental health interventions and targeted human support, significantly improving the patient experience.

SDMH Testimony for FDA Digital Health Advisory Committee (DHAC) –November 6, 2025 

At the FDA DHAC Meeting on Generative AI in Digital Mental Health Devices, Dr. Steven Schueller, President of the Society for Digital Mental Health (SDMH), emphasized the need for safe, effective, and scalable AI-enabled mental health tools. He urged the FDA to prioritize transparency, safety, and clinical accountability, supported by a risk-based framework tailored to generative AI. Aubrey Shick, an SDMH member, expanded on these principles, calling for human-centered transparency embedded throughout user interfaces. 

Navigating CMS Reimbursement for Digital Mental Health: What Every Stakeholder Should Know

In this webinar, Lisa Palko, Executive Director of SDMH, introduces the topic of CMS reimbursement for digital mental health technologies and highlights the growing app market and new 2024 FDA–CMS payment pathways. Michael Shellhous, Esq. of the Nixon Law Group explains new Digital Mental Health Treatment (DMHT) codes, their strict eligibility requirements, and the challenges of Medicare Administrator Contractor pricing and low early utilization. Together, they emphasize that, despite these hurdles, the DMHT codes mark important progress and will require continued advocacy, evidence-building, and provider education to ensure successful adoption.
